A New Take on a Classic Landscape
While abstract compositions are a core part of my portfolio, "Aurora Borealis" offered a fun opportunity to experiment with scenic storytelling.
This piece captures the quiet awe of standing under a starry night sky, looking out over a still lake surrounded by distant mountain silhouettes while atmospheric lights swirl overhead.
The Process & Materials
To create the feeling of cosmic depth, standard paper wouldn't cut it—the foundation needed to shine on its own.
- The Surface: Metallic deep blue foil cardstock serves as the sky and water canvas. As lighting in the room changes, the background shifts from dark navy to radiant sapphire.
- Color Palette: High-pigment acrylic paint markers in cool teal, mint green, soft lavender, rich magenta, and vivid pink form fluid, energetic currents across the sky.
- The Frame: To extend the artwork beyond the canvas boundaries, the surrounding frame was custom-decorated in matching metallic tones, making the entire display feel cohesive.
